On the road

The route from Amsterdam to Brussels

The first 160 km are the same as our Antwerp route: A2 and A27 to Breda, the A16 to the border, then the E19 through the Antwerp ring. South of Antwerp the E19 passes Mechelen and reaches the Brussels ring a few minutes from Brussels Airport. From there it is roughly 15 km into the city.

Both rings are known for traffic jams, the one around Antwerp and the Brussels ring. Our chauffeurs watch the traffic on the way and choose the approach into the city on the day.

Timing and rush hour

Daytime, weekends2h30–2h50
Leaving in the weekday rush, 07:00–09:00 or 16:00–18:003h15–4h

Car or train to Brussels?

The Eurostar from Amsterdam Centraal to Brussels-Midi takes a little under 2 hours. That is faster than the car, station to station. The NS Intercity is cheaper and takes close to 3 hours.

The station times leave out both ends of the trip. You need to get to Amsterdam Centraal first, and Brussels-Midi is in the south of the city, a metro or taxi ride from the EU quarter. For an address that is not next to either station, the train usually comes to around 3 hours door to door, with two changes. That is about the same as the car.

So the train is a good choice for one person going station to station. The car wins for groups, for heavy luggage, for a flight from Brussels Airport (we pass it on the way), and for anyone who wants a quiet place to prepare for the meeting. In a V-Class with 6 people, the price is about €113 per person.

Pick-up and drop-off in Brussels

In the EU quarter, the European Commission is in the Berlaymont at Schuman, and the European Parliament is on Place du Luxembourg. Cars drop visitors at the visitor entrance, which is not always the main door. Send us the entrance from your badge invitation and the chauffeur drives there.

For a flight from Brussels Airport, we drop you at departures. Carry a passport or ID card: there is no border control between the Netherlands and Belgium, but you will need it at the airport and at the hotel. In Amsterdam we wait 15 minutes free at the pick-up address.
