On the road
The route to The Hague
The car takes the A4 south past Leiden. For the city centre, the ministries and Den Haag Centraal we switch to the A12 at the Prins Clausplein interchange. The A12 runs straight into the centre and ends a few hundred metres from the station.
For Scheveningen, the World Forum, Europol and the International Criminal Court, the A44 through Wassenaar is often the better choice. It enters the city from the north, close to the dunes, and skips the busiest part of the A4.
The Hague is the seat of the Dutch government and home to most embassies in the country. It also hosts a long list of international bodies: the International Court of Justice in the Peace Palace, the ICC, Europol and the OPCW among them. Security at these addresses is tight. Visitors are usually dropped at a gate or a visitor entrance, so send us the entrance from your invitation if you have it.
Timing and rush hour
| When | Typical drive time |
|---|---|
| Night and early morning | 30–35 min |
| Daytime, weekends | 35–50 min |
| Weekday rush 07:00–09:30 and 16:00–18:30 | 55–75 min |
The A4 between Schiphol and The Hague is one of the busiest motorways in the Netherlands, and one accident near Leiden can add half an hour. For a hearing or an appointment with a fixed start time, we plan an extra 30 minutes in the morning peak. The price does not change.
Train or private transfer to The Hague?
There is a direct train from Schiphol to Den Haag Centraal several times an hour, and it takes roughly 30 minutes. If you stay near the station and travel light, it is quick and cheap.
The sums change once you add the last part. The Peace Palace, the ICC, the World Forum and the Scheveningen hotels are all a tram or taxi ride from Den Haag Centraal. With suitcases that means a change, a wait and close to an hour door to door. A chauffeur goes from Schiphol Plaza straight to the gate.
For delegations the V-Class seats 7 and the Sprinter 16, so a whole team arrives at the same time. A single minister or speaker usually travels in the S-Class.
Pick-up and drop-off
At Schiphol your chauffeur waits at the Meeting Point with a name sign. We track the flight and the first 60 minutes after landing are free.
In The Hague we drop off at the hotel door, on the boulevard in Scheveningen or at the visitor entrance of your organisation. For the return to Schiphol we pick you up at the same place; 15 minutes of waiting are free. Leaving the city on a weekday between 16:00 and 18:30, allow at least an hour to the airport.
